Delete your zwole account
This page explains how to delete your account in the zwole app, what is removed, what is kept, and how long it takes. zwole is developed and operated by zwole.
Deleting it from the app
Settings → Delete account
Open zwole, go to the Settings tab, and choose Delete account. You will be asked to confirm. That is the whole of it — you do not need to email anyone.
If you no longer have the app
Email support@zwole.app from the address your account uses and ask us to delete it. We action it through the same mechanism the in-app button uses, so the deletion itself is the same as the one described below.
What happens, and when
- Straight away. Your account is marked for deletion. If you deleted it in the app, that device is signed out, and any other device where you're signed in shows that the account is being deleted and offers to keep it, until the deletion is final. If you asked us by email, you're signed out everywhere.
- For the next 28 days. Nothing is erased yet. If you change your mind, sign in again within those 28 days and you will be offered the chance to cancel. This window exists so that a deletion made in a bad moment is not irreversible.
- After 28 days. The deletion is finalised automatically. Nothing further is required from you, and from that point it cannot be undone.
What is deleted
- Your sign-in and your email address. You can no longer sign in, and the link between you and the account is destroyed.
- Your display name, and any display names you used before it.
- Your profile picture.
- The original photo files uploaded from your phone.
- Your favourite chargers, and the nicknames you gave your vehicles.
- Text you typed into what you contributed: a note or a suggested network on a price, and a vehicle make you typed under "Other".
- Records about what you did in the app, and today's count of charger look-ups.
- The identifier that connected your posts to you. It is replaced with a new, unrelated one, so in the app your posts can no longer be traced back to your account or grouped together as yours.
- Your name stops being shown anywhere in the app.
What is kept, and why
The prices you contributed stay in the app, without your name on them. Other drivers rely on them, and a charger's price history would be wrong if observations vanished from it. Once your account is finalised, those prices are no longer attributed to you, and in the app they are no longer connected to each other as one person's.
The following are also kept, none of them linked to your name, email address or sign-in:
- the charging sessions and vehicles you recorded (without their nicknames), the edit history of your contributions, and your pioneer records;
- your photos. They stop being shown in the app as soon as you ask to delete your account. We keep a processed copy of each, with the details saved with it when it was taken: when and where, the phone or camera model, and the camera settings;
- the record of what you agreed to about your photos;
- reports you made, or that were made about you, including any text typed into them. We need these to handle complaints and appeals;
- if the account was banned, a scrambled (hashed) form of its email address, so the ban still applies if the address is used to sign up again;
- a bare record that the account existed.
How long copies last
- Backups: up to 35 days. Our backups are kept for up to 35 days and are used only to restore the service after a failure. A copy of what was deleted, including the original photo files, can remain in a backup for up to 35 days after the deletion is final, and then it is erased.
- Service logs: 90 days. Our service logs, which can include your IP address and the requests your app made, are kept for 90 days and then deleted. If the account was banned, the deletion also logs its hashed email address for 90 days, so the ban survives a restore from backup.
